Alice
Hallelujah
Avengers
BY FRIDAY, MARCH 28TH AT MIDNIGHT:
- For each song, list specific measures with issues and how we should fix them. For example:
"Alice, measure 30: tempo change causes us to fall apart. We can fix by watching, listening, counting.
Alice, measure 47: eighth notes aren't together. Fix by subdividing.
Hallelujah, measure 112: dynamics aren't present. Create change in dynamics with bow placement and speed.
Avengers, measure 438: intonation in the Bbs isn't low enough. Fix by extending first finger back towards scroll."
“Alice, measures 15-16 & 19-20: personally I’m not sure how to play the triplets. This could be improved by asking for help and pizzicato the measures.
ReplyDeleteAlice, measures 72-74: the tempo in this section is changeling because I’ve never heard or played it before. Slurring the notes and making sure I lift the bow in time.
Avengers, measure 41: when we played the test we never practice beyond 47 so therefore some people don’t play it or are not sure how to play it. I think 2nd violins should together figure out how to change strings or shift.
Hallelujah, measures 29-44: making sure that all the dynamics are present and actually doing the loure bowing.
Hallelujah, measure 59: because we don’t do repeats often, I often forget to repeat the certain section. To help me remember I could mark or highlight the part.
Alice: measures 1-11; The beginning of the piece should be clean and in tune, especially in measure 10.This can be solved by counting and emphasizing the frist note on every measure. In measure 10, intonation in the g sharps and not high enough, and needs a cleaner sound.
ReplyDeleteAlice: measures 38- 44; the first violins' intonation isnt very good. This can be practiced to and learned by figuring out what the best fingering method is for us.
Hallelujah: measures 5-throughout; This piece is very familiar and known to be touching and soft. As i listening to our recording, it is at the same dynamic and almost like every individual part is fighting to be the heard. Each part is important, but the dynamic markings are there for a reason. This problem can be solved by highlighting or marking the dynamics.
Hallelujah: measures 45-53; every part sound a bit more clear and watch out for the G in measure 46 & make sure it is in tune. We can mark our parts and practice it correctly , in tune.
The Avengers: measures 6: second violins were out of tune. Practicing it in tune and marking that part, will help us out.
measures 47-end; there are alot of intonation issues. we should mark it in our part and play the last two measures with the "bow tie" effect .
Alice- Measures 1-9 transition to the different notes in 10 isn't quite right. Counting the first measures and staying on track will help. In measure also, higher G# Shifting will make it easier, so I don't have to cross strings
ReplyDeleteAlice- Measures 34-68, We don't pay attention to the tempo, so we are off when it says slowly then in measure 47 when it switches to a little faster. Counting and listening to rest of orchestra will solve this problem. Also we come in a beat early in 69, so that's all counting and paying attention.
Alice- Measures 83-99 would be so much interesting if we actually played all the crescandos and decresandos as marked. Dynamics as usual is something we need to practice.
Alice- The last line we just need to work on holding the half note a little longer after the quarter note better.
Halleujah- measure 14, it says crescando then in measure 18-20 we are suppose to get gradually louder then fade back out, and I didn't hear any difference in our pitch. Dynamics need's to be worked on, so we are not just playing notes on a piece of paper, but actual music.
Hallejuah-Measure 45-53 we have some rhythmic issues, so just practicing will solve that problem then transiting to A major the next measure.
Avengers-Measures 9-13 is just learning how to play and balance out the bottom part with top, so they dont overshadow us.
Avengers- Measures 47-end could improve by be more staccato and accented. Also last two measures actually doing the dynamics level would end the piece great.
Alice: When the cellos and violas have the on going triplets in measures 11-29 and 110-21, i need to count how long we go on because i always get lost. Also at the part of the Bandersnatch in measures 63-85,being louder and making sure there are low enough Eb and Bb's
ReplyDeleteHallelujah: We need more balance to who has the melody throughout the song. The key change messes us up in 53 to the end, but i think all we need to do is mark the sharps.
Avengers: In measure 29, we still need to pay attention to the key change, and also seconds need to be a bit quieter with the sixteenth notes. The accents in 38, 51 and 52 should be more louder. The last three measures to create the loud to soft and back to loud effect should be more dramatic if we make the pianos really soft
I'm just gonna apologize because I forgot that I needed my music this weekend and left it in my locker, so all of my "complaints" are general sections.
ReplyDeleteAlice:
-When we start the song the first violins sound a little behind the metronome (It might just be me)
-At measure 38, the first violins aren't together or playing the same note
-It might me the mic but the cellos and basses seemed abnormally quiet
-The last few measures where we have the chords are completely out of tune
-Intonation and counting for the whole thing
Hallelujah:
-I believe it was measure 45 where the first violins needed to count. We learned that today but in the recording it was off
-The end is special....that's all
-The whole piece itself sounds a little timid and muddled. We could establish a "sweet spot" in the bow so that the sound is a little fuller.
-There weren't really any dynamics so those should be added
Avengers:
-In measure 9 you can't hear the bottom part of the first violin music
-Intonation all the way. I suggest a sort of sectional where we go through the notes and perfect them
- The bow tie dynamic was good but could still be a little more dramatic
Alice
ReplyDelete-we need to do a greater forte at measure 10. we can do that by playing closer to the bridge and at the frog.
-in measures 12-15 we need to fix our intonation issues by listening to ourselves play and determine whether we are sharp or flat
-in measure 68 when the cellos have the eighth notes, the e is out of tune. We can fix this by listening to ourselves play and make sure we have our fingers placed correctly.
-in 110, we need to better adjust to the faster tempo change and look up so we are playing at the right speed
Hallelujah
-in measure 33, the C the cellos have is out of tune. we need to make sure our fingers are placed correctly
-from measures 50-54 we need to stay together better by listening to each other and counting.
-we need work on the ending as well by making sure we are in tune and listening to the other sections to try and stay together.
Avengers
-there were many intonation issues at measure 9 that we need to fix by listening to ourselves
-we need to pay attention to the key signature change to A major and pay attention to the extra sharps
-we need to pay attention to the sforzando at the end and make out piano softer and our forte louder
-Kristin Casella
Alice in Wonderland
ReplyDelete-starting on measure 29 the 2nd violins, including me, need to count so that we don't come in to early.
-from measure 47-60 i need to learn how to shift so it can be easier to play the slurs.
-for measure 114 i need to learn to combine the note and play the sharp.
The Avengers
-from measure 29-39 i need to count and make sure i'm playing the right notes
-for the last 3 measures i need to focus on the dynamics. Start off playing soft then gradually playing louder.
Hallelujah
-the number 1 thing i need to focus on is counting throughout the whole piece of music.
- i also need to practice on measures 46- 53 because i don't know how to play the notes that well.
Alice In Wonderland:
ReplyDelete-Measure 10 the crescendo needs to be louder. This can be done by adding pressure to the string, playing near the bridge, and/or using longer bow strokes.
-Measures 38-44 the violins should play cleaner by playing together and playing the right notes.
-Measures 63-75 needs to be played louder and in tune (flats). By practicing intonation and playing near the bridge.
-Measures 97-99 decrescendos are not being played. Start loud and drop to piano by releasing pressure and slowing bow movement.
-Measures 114-end chord notes aren’t clean. Practicing the bow movement and intonation will help clean it.
Hallelujah:
-Measures 41-45 need to be played together. By listening to one another and counting this can be fixed.
-Measures 45-53 needs to be played together. By listening to one another and counting this can be fixed.
-The ending needs intonation and rhythm work. By practicing the notes, listening to each other play, and counting.
-Add dynamics in the whole song by using longer or shorter bows and changing the amount of pressure on the strings when necessary.
The Avengers:
-Measures 9-13 bottom half is not heard. There needs to be better balance between the top and bottom. The bottom half needs to play louder.
-Accents need to be louder.
-During the last 3 measures the decrescendo and crescendo isn’t noticeable. The piano should played softly differentiating it from the fortissimo.

Alice:
ReplyDelete-starting in measure 1 when the first violins come, they need to be louder and stringer sounding. This can be fixed by simply just playing closer to the frog and bridge giving it a louder sound, more bow weight makes it stronger.
-the extensions for violas and seconds in measures 9 and 10 need to be more in tune. This is helped by bringing your elbow under your instrument more so you can reach your fingers out further and make the extension.
-around measure 15 or so when the violins come in that note doesn't sound very strong or in tune. They can work on intonation by fixing posture and playing closer to the frog and bridge with more weight.
-when the violas and cellos begin to play by themselves it gets quiet. The violas can come together and use way more bow weight and play closer to the frog so we can sound bigger. The cellos can use more bow weight too, although they have more people so they don't have to try as hard.
- in measures 39 and 40 the firsts extensions aren't high enough causing them to be out of tune. This can be fixed with simply reaching higher and better posture.
Hallelujah:
-the cellos, seconds, and violas are over powering the firsts. They can all easily quiet down by applying less bow weight. While the firsts can apply more weight.
-when the hooked bowings start in measure 29, they sound like one long note. This can be fixed by picking the bow up more and accenting when you come back down.
-in measure 45 and on, the scales are off throughout the whole orchestra. This is fixed by listening to the metronome better or counting better.
-in 61 when the cellos and violas are by themselves it's very quiet and out of tune. Again, more weight can be applied and closer to the frog. Posture and reaching for the right extensions or lowering will fix intonation.
Avengers:
-starting in measure 1 the cellos are very quiet. More bow weight and closer to the frog will fix this.
-anyone who is playing the second half of the first ' part when then they come in in measure 9ish, can play louder using more bow weight and frog.
-the firsts part in measure 13ish where they have hooked bwings, those could be more accented. Do this by pushing harder on the bow when it's placed down and then releasing some.
-the violas and cellos could be louder in measures 39 and so on, using more force and the frog.
Alice:
ReplyDelete-In measure 10, the crescendo is not heard at all. This can be fixed by moving closer to the bridge but still staying at the balance point of the bow. Also, more bow weight would work.
-measures 15, 16, 19, 20 need to be more in tune. This can be fixed by making sure your left hand is in third position correctly.
-measures 38-44 need to be more in tune. By moving to third position on the A and E string, the intonation should be fixed.
Hallelujah:
-measures 45-53 needs to be worked on. The intonation is not correct. Also, measure 51 starts a crescendo and that is not heard very much. That can be fixed by moving the bow towards the bridge of the violin.
-Overall, the dynamics need to be worked on in this piece. As a class, we need to spend our time perfecting the dynamics. Without the dynamics, the piece sounds boring.
Avengers:
-In measure 5 when the violins come in, the crescendo is not heard at all. By moving towards the bridge and adding more bow weight, the problem should be fixed.
-In measures 9-13, the bottom half of the violins are not heard at all. That can be fixed by being louder.
~Marissa B.
The Avengers
ReplyDelete-At measure 9, the violins who play on the second and fourth beats need to use more pressure on the bow and use longer bow strokes so that they can be heard
-At measure 26, the rhythm should be clapped or studied so that everyone knows how it should sound
-Throughout the entire piece, mainly when there are the eight note patterns, the accents need to emphasized by adding pressure and keeping bow strokes short
-At measure 48, the first violins who shift up have intonation issues. This can be fixed through proper finger placement and positioning.
-DYNAMICS are needed to make the piece stronger. This can be achieved by thinking while playing and paying attention
Hallelujah
-At measure 5, the violins need to be able to tell the difference between a hooked bowing and a slur
-At measure 37 when the seconds have the melody, the violins have rhythmic issues that can be solved through counting or clapping
-At measure 45, all sections need to count to come in at the right time
At measure 53 there is a key change, so all sections need to focus on finger placement to achieve the proper tune
-At measure 37 the seconds with the melody cannot be heard, so the firsts need to back down
Alice
-At measure 1, the violins need to get out of sync. We have to make sure to count and accent the first note
-At measure 15, violins are out of tune. In order to shift efficiently, we must have proper right hand positioning
-At measure 34, the cellos had intonation issues that can be solved through proper positioning and finger placement
-At measure 38, the violins weren't confident in the notes and were out of tune. The notes need to be practiced and fingerings should be reviewed
-At measure 63, the orchestra is not furious enough. We should be playing at the frog and using short bow strokes with pressure to create the right style
-At measure 99, violins become messy, so we should separate the notes to make it clearer and accent the first note
-There are violin intonation issues from 114 to the end. This can be fixed by proper finger placement and practice.
Alice In Wonderland
ReplyDeleteStarting at the beginning of this piece measure 1-11 we have to count more productively in stead of just guessing because the the are repetitive so we just play non stop not knowing when to stop. We also need to play in tune because the notes don't sound too clear. We also should work on bow speed Also in measures 38-44 the violins have to count to come in at the right time.
Hallelujah
At measure 48 in this piece you cant really hear the notes too well so we have to work on finger placement and also to play more in tune
Avengers
In this piece starting at measure 9-13 its hard to hear the second part so for the people in the violin section with that part should play out so heard. Also in measure 39-47 we tend to rush so to be more together we need to play at the right tempo ans listen to each other to know whats going on
Alice
ReplyDeleteAt measure 30 we have a lot of trouble transitioning so we should look up to watch Mrs. Bawcum and count.
Hallelujah
At measure 51 the cellos and basses have a triplet that you can't really hear so we need to play it more clearly
Avengers
At measure 45 the basses have an out of tune D sharp so we need to work on our finger placement
Alice: You can't really hear the second violins. We need to be louder and count.
ReplyDeleteAvengers: We started off good and when we hit measure 29 we started falling apart. We need to make sure that we are extending third finger also.
Hallelujah: measure 45 is where we have the most trouble because we are coming in a beat early every time. Also extended third fingers in the piece near the end.
