My Heart will Go On

Mountain King

BY FRIDAY, MARCH 28TH AT MIDNIGHT:

- For each song, list specific measures with issues and how we should fix them.  For example:

"Mountain King, measure 30: tempo change causes us to fall apart.  We can fix by watching, listening, counting.
Mountain King, measure 47: eighth notes aren't together.  Fix by subdividing.
My Heart will go on, measure 112: dynamics aren't present.  Create change in dynamics with bow placement and speed.
My heart will go on, measure 438: intonation in the Bbs isn't low enough.  Fix by extending first finger back towards scroll."

  1. In my heart will go on we should be staying on tempo. I hear alort of rushing. We should fix this by counting & listening.
In the Hall of the mountain King It sounds bad b/c We r off tempo & we could fix this by listening to each other & keeping up with the tempo.

  2. My Heart Will Go On - Sounds like a weak soap needs to have a little bit of spice needs more legato.
Mountain King - needs to sound louder like 3/28/2014 and more spiccato while the tempo increases.

  3. In My Heart Will Go On, we need to stay on tempo by counting. We also need to keep in tune and listen to each other.
In In The Hall Of The Mountain King, I can barely hear the violins, we need to play louder and closer to the bridge in the middle of the bow in order to play louder. We also need to work on tempo and staying together, we can do this by counting and listening to each other.

  4. In my heart will go on the first note of measure 23 we were really off note. We also need to be louder and listen to each other better. In hall of the mountain king measure 51 though 71 we need to stay together better and fix our intonation.

  5. in my heart will go on, we need to practice staying together and we need to fix up the note to where they sound "more romantic" and not allow the song to sound as if we are trying to put the audience to sleep
in hall of the mountain king we need to play louder and focus on dynamics we also need to listen to every one around us do we can stay together

  6. In My Heart Will Go On, there are several issues, most include counting. I feel as if ether we are coming in at wrong times, we are not sub-dividing in any form or fashion, and some rush and some don't. now in class i am seeing improvement now but there are a lot of counting issues still. intonation was also a huge issue, i felt as if all sections played a lot out of tune but mainly violins and violas. dynamics were meh, but there was one main problem i noticed is that cellos calm yo self and violins be louder, you guys have the melody!! also,we need to lean in on some of the notes to sound more interesting almost like the real song.
In Hall Of The Mountain King, there where sooo many problems. first in the beginning the arco part that the violas play, only one person played. after that the whole song became a whole jambalaya of notes. which i think that because of bad timeing or maybe counting issue.I think that we aren't on key at all when it comes to the melody. sadly i think we can do better in the end, but maybe if we keep on trying we will fix all the issues.

  7. My Heart Will Go On, measure 37-the end: we all have intonation with the E's, G's, and F#'s, we could solve that by fixing our posture with our left hand and listening to others around you who have the right pitch
My Heart Will Go On, measures 13-21 the cellos have a big problem with the C naturals, if they would just listen to others and their instrument and train their ears to hear the correct tune then they should get it better in tune
My Heart Will Go On, throughout the whole piece, we aren't really playing in the way the piece is supposed to be written (legato) so we should use less bow weight to make the bow flow over the string to get a lightweight sound
My Heart Will Go On, the dynamics aren't great, I don't know how to fix that except to so play what's written in your part
Hall of the Mountain King, measures 1-2 whoever is playing needs to get their note in tune so it sounds like you're playing as one person so you would have to listen to your instrument and move your fingers around until you hit the right pitch
Hall of the Mountain King, throughout the whole part, all the sections are out of tune when they play either a D#, G#, Bb, C natural, F natural, high D, or an E. im not sure if people don't know they're playing out of tune or if they thinks they're right and are too stubborn to fix it but whatever it is, then people need to have open minds and listen to others and yourself
Hall of the Mountain King, measures 31-35 sounded really sloppy like we didn't know where each other were and I think if we listen to other sections rather just listening to yourself then you could find some sense as where you should be

  8. In my heart will go on, the piece sounds very boring because of the quarter notes. So, we should put more weight on our bows and use our bows more to make it sound less boring like, making our instruments sing. In the whole notes, and half notes, we need to count because it's not together. In measure 29, the people who have the melody part need to play very loud because you can't really hear it well. Overall, I think this piece isn't that bad. We just need to make it sound less boring.
In hall of the mountain king, WE NEED TO COUNT in the beginning because almost 3/4 of us don't come in on the right time. In measures 27, 35, 43, 59, and 63, a lot of rushing occurs and by improving, we need to stay in tempo and hear others around us play so it would help us stay on track. In measure 51, that's where it all falls apart. In my opinion, I think it's the first violins that mess some of us up because most of us hear them and get lost. In addition, second violin aren't together because when it comes to the rests in 51 and so on, few people play on the rest. So, to improve that COUNT. In meaure 83 to the end, it doesn't sound so good because it needs to be extremely loud and together. Overall, this piece needs to be played loud and we need to stay together. In my opinion, each section should work on meaures that is the most difficult for them.

  9. In My Heart will go on we struggle to make the piece sound more alive. In the beginning measure starting around 4 the Violas really need to make those slurs sound more peaceful and together by maybe giving each begining note an accent or adjusting on how much bow is being used.
My Heart Will go on is a really easy peace to play and if we try to fit in some crescendos and dynamic changes itll make it alot more presentable.
In Hall of the mountain King when we played the other day it sounded alot more like a piece. The piece is extremely repetitive so there shouldnt be a problem with playing it however some of us still seem to struggle through the piece as the tempo begins to increase. To fix that I think we should repeat the measures we struggle with the most at a slower tempo then progress to the tempo it should actually be. Counting is also an issue at the begining when Violas have that one not then slowly fade off.Watching for the cue and subdividing would be helpful. Overall the piece is begining to come together just needs a little bit more help.

  10. In my heart will go on. Everyone just needs to subdivide and listen to each other and stop rushing. Also we need to stay in tune. Specifically the Cellos because they have been slacking off lately. In Mountain King, there are lots of issues. Subdividing of course. intonation, and just getting the notes right. We are getting better with dynamics but still needs a little work. Other than that we've gone through alot of progress with these pieces and we're almost there.

  11. In the Hall of the Mountain King-
At measure 27, the cellos sounded like we were playing the same notes at different times, like one was following another instead of all of them being at the same time. At measure 57, it sounded the everyone fell off and weren't playing together for the brief moment. We need to work on our counting for this piece, making sure we're in tune, and work on our dynamics. I heard very few changes through out the audio.

    My Heart will Go on-
This piece is easier than the other one, but also pretty repetitive, so when we mess up on one part, it will be heard when we repeat it again. So, I heard many notes out of tune during the audio. It also sounded a bit static. Not much feeling into it, no dynamic changes, but we did count on this piece. So at least we got that down.
