Ta-DA!!!! Here's your first recording of the semester. It's...not great. BUT!! BUT!!!!!! You're going to come up with a plan for how to fix it. After listening to today's recordings, submit (either here or written) a plan for how you are going to approach these three pieces. BE SPECIFIC if you want full credit!

Aftershock
Red Pepper
Red Pepper- Needs a lot of work on being familiar with the notes and not making up our own notes. The part that I need to work on is in measure 26 when v2 have pizz. I tend to rush and get ahead of everybody. So to fix that I need to count and listen to others. Same thing can be said in measures 66 and 82 where there is pizz.
ReplyDeleteAvatar- I feel pretty good about because I have already played this piece before. The only thing I can think of is the dynamics because I don't pay attention to the dynamic changes in my music enough to realize it. So to fix that is to watch for dynamic changes through out the piece.
Aftershock- I feel the most comfortable with because it is the same notes and rhythm for v2 all through out the piece. So I have no problems with Aftershock.

In Aftershock it sounds okay....... we get lost at around measure 23. I would start doing better with the rhythm by counting. avatar is one of the pieces that needs the most work. the rhythm is off to start off, and I would start focusing more on the dynamics. Finally in the revenge of the red pepper, we are off tempo, and I would start bringing my instrument home 2 practice starting 2 keep the rhythm.
ReplyDeleteIn Avatar, I feel it was okay for the most part. It got kinda off around measure 14, but it got picked back up around 21. Near the end, Around measure 56, it sounded that we got way off tempo probably because we had eights, and that tends to make me want to rush more without noticing the tempo. I will work on trying to not rush nor drag with this piece.
ReplyDeleteAftershock felt like the easiest piece for me. Very repetitive with the notes, but you can't go auto pilot on this piece for a second, or else the wrong note will be played. Also, I would have to keep count so I won't come in to early. It sounds kinda sluggish around 79, but I'm sure that can be cleaned up easily.
Red Pepper- This piece messed up my eyes up real bad when we first looked at it, and I couldn't keep up many times. It didn't help it was the longest piece we played. I had to familiarize myself with many things when going through it again. For me, measures like 14 and 65 would mess me up because I wasn't exactly sure how it was supposed to sound, and I didn't think to shift. When there were measures that me struggle, I got lost until I'm told what measure we're on. I think the work here is that everyone just need to become familiar with the notes through practice, and hearing examples of measures that is a struggle.
All the pieces do have to work on the dynamics, and I'm sure it can be done in due time after the notes are learned.
Avatar- Cellos need to work on counting as well as the violins, the entire thing was off. The violins need to work on the key signature. The dynamics and fingering need to be worked on because the entire thing sounded flat and sharp in parts it did not need to. Also, the basses could not even be heard so they need to work on dynamics and being louder.
ReplyDeleteAftershock- The counting could be worked on a little bit. The dynamics also could be worked on. The main problem is that we are not listening to each other so we don't know when to come in.
Red Pepper- Listening to the metronome would help a lot. In my opinion the piece sounds terrible as is. Working on counting and fingering would help a lot. Shifting is also a major part and objective of this piece so learning the shift positions and getting more comfortable shifting would help a lot.In order to achieve this we need to go home and practice, work on shifting, and counting some of the difficulties we are having with this piece.

Avatar- We need to work on staying together. the violins includeing I need to work on playing our parts louder and not quitely ( except in Piano). other wise i thought we all played this peice pretty good.
ReplyDeleteAftershock-We need to come in on the right beats and come in at the right time. I needa practice playing the right notes and not messing up on the portions of music.I also have to practice to listen to other instruments to know when to come in.
Red Pepper- This peice is the one that has to be worked on the most. We need to work on playing faster and the correct notes. This is a peice that really needs alot of practice. I need to work on getting the correct fingerings and bowings. We need to get all the sharps and accedentals down.

ReplyDeleteAvatar-We need to work on getting the high notes in tune in the violin section, and as well play louder and light bouncing.
Red Pepper- We need the violins and violas to be ready to play at the beginning and count. Some parts of the music should be practiced slowly and gradually increase the tempo when getting the beats right.
Aftershock-We should play the music at slower tempos and gradually increase to the exact tempo
Red Pepper- This is the piece that needs the most work. We each individually need to work on learning the rhythm and notes so we don't mess up the whole orchestra. This piece also needs work on the fingering and bowings. We need to also get all of the sharps and accidentals in tune. We also need to come in at the right time with the pick-ups.
ReplyDeleteAvatar- This piece doesn't need as much work. We need to stay in tune and count better. We also need to pay attention to the dynamics so we don't bore our audience. Slurs are another issue that needs to be worked on. We need to stay together and count to make this piece work.
Aftershock- This piece is actually pretty simple if we count and come in at the right time. We also need to pay attention to the dynamics throughout the piece. Listening to the other instruments is key to know when to come in. We also need to write down not to take the repeat at measure 30; i hear a lot of violins start to take the repeat before they realize where we are, i have also made this mistake a few times myself and need to pay more attention.

DeleteRed Pepper- This song is the one that needs to be worked on the most. Taking instruments home and practicing would help. Counting and learning the notes so things like accidentals don't mess us up. Then when were ready trying to play the dynamics that are there and not making up our own same with the notes.
ReplyDeleteAvatar- Since the recording Avatar has become a lot better. Still counting and listening to other sections would help so no one gets lost. Also practicing the notes so it is in tune. Learning the tempo and dynamics would make it so that no one is dragging or even rushing.
Aftershock- Same as Avatar this song got a lot better so learning the dynamics and tempo would help. Counting is important so we know when to come in instead of playing on rest. Also having the repeat crossed out at measure 30 would help so we don't start to play it and get lost then try to find the measure everyone else is.
Red pepper - I feel like if everyone took the time to work on the measures they struggle in it'll all start fitting together. But overall the piece doesn't sound that bad it just needs a little more attention
ReplyDeleteAvatar- This piece is maybe one of the easiest because it does repeat a lot but we need to make sure yhe notes are more in tone so theres more of a solid sound. Once we include dynamics we should be okay
Aftershock- This is probably one of our easiest pieces. We need to make sure we have the correct markings in our music so we don't get confused and also it would help to count and know when to come In and when you should rest.
Avatar - During this recording, this piece sounded terrible. Since then, however we have improved greatly. We still need to work on staying together a bit, and since there are a lot of eighth notes and sixteenth notes, that doesn't really help. We also need to work on staying with the metronome, since i noticed in some parts we would rush. Most of the time, it came back together, and we should easily be able to get this piece under wraps well before the concert.
ReplyDeleteAftershock - My opinion of this piece is that it sounds terrible slow, especially when the notes are also out of tune. I think we might be able to do this piece better if we actually sped it up. This piece sounds amazing, or at least it will once we get the correct notes and get the tempo and dynamics in check. There was a bit of rushing during some parts, where we would nearly get 3 beats off of the metronome's tune. I don't think the notes are our biggest problem in this piece, although they certainly are a big one. The biggest challenge is the tempo in my opinion.
Red Pepper - Okay, this piece just doesn't have any good aspects about it. The notes are horrible, we can never stay together, and when we can, we are still off tempo. I personally do not like this song very much, and it doesn't help that it sounds terrible when we play it. This piece needs some MAJOR work in order to get it ready for the concert in February. I don't think the slurs help with trying to keep us in tempo, and the fact that this piece has a lot of strange rhythms and note patterns doesn't help either. The notes are also way off at a lot of parts. If we can get those two things under control, we might have a chance of working this piece into shape.
Avatar- this piece was very dragish (yes I made up a word) the piece would have also stayed together better if we could all stay together then it would sound completely different
ReplyDeleteAftershock- if avatar were dragish then after shock was horribly draggy and this caused all of us playing at different tempos causing the intire piece to be messed up and all weird
Red pepper- by far worst of all pieces the most dragged and the most screwed up I feel it is cause the notes we were playing we thought were difficult so we had trouble stating together and the dragging made it worse and more obvious that we had no clue what we were playing
Revenge of the Red Pepper- Overall, I feel I've improved a bit since the recording but I still drag in certain measures such as measure 42 where I play late. I think counting the rests could help. In this piece sometimes I get the bowings backwards as well.
ReplyDeleteAvatar- This piece needs a lot of work. The biggest problem I have with this piece is dragging and tempo. I should take my instrument home and practice more often by repeating the measures I have trouble with.
Aftershock- Measures 39 through 48 are most difficult for me because of the way the notes change by one step. Sometimes I misread the music and play the wrong note. I should play closer attention to the music notes. Also the dynamics in measure 70 are difficult. I keep forgetting to pay attention to the dynamics.
