Concert Orchestra!

Concert orchestra-- listen to this recording of Tumbleweeds...
Our class recording of Tumbleweeds

...and compare it to the professional recording I posted previously.  What are the differences that you hear (other than tempo)?  What can YOU do to improve our performance?

  1. Our dynamics did not change unlike the professional recording. I need to actually play the dynamics marked in the piece.

I think that we sound OK but its the counting and sub-dividing that we need to work on. Also we need to practice and bring our instruments home. :)

  3. I think that it sounds fine but we need to sub-divide and work on out intonation and dynamics. other than that I think its ok. :)

  4. As I listen to this recording while eating some barbeque chips, it occurs to me that our intonation is not good, nor do we play the dynamics. I see an orchestra with great intonation and students who actually play the dynamics.

  5. Compared to the recording, we lack dynamics, and need to work on intonation, bow speed and sub-dividing. Other than that we sound not so terrible. We need to practice at home more, by.....wait for it.....BRINGING OUR INSTRUMENTS HOME!! *GASP!* i know, hard to believe huh? and PERSON WHO COUGHED I HOPE YOU DON'T GET SICK CHILD NO ONE WANTS YOU SICK!!! xDD

  6. Well it wasn't bad but it had some issues like dynamics and intonation. I was bummed that I could barely hear the cello part (or is it just?) Anyways...ummm that's all! c:

  7. Our dynamics did not change and we need to stay together, especially starting at measure 17.

  8. The violins sound winny, we need to make the notes in tune. We're not really together, and we need to listen and sub-divide.

  9. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but there's still a few things we need to work on. Such as, dynamics, keeping together and subdividing. Honestly, these could be fixed by taking our instruments home and ACTUALLY practicing WITH a metronome.(Play pieces slowly first, and gradually increasing tempo as you get better) :)

  10. It wasn't that bad but there is still stuff we need to improve on. Such as dynamics, counting, and knowing when to play and not to play. We all need to take our instuments home and pratice for real.

  11. Jaylah Legette -It sounded like we were dragging the sounds together. You could not hear the precise sound we were trying to make. It was like you could hear us but it sounded whinney. We need to sub divide and listen to our selves and others.

  12. We need to work on staying together by subdividing and counting. Our inntonation SUCKS!! The only solution for solving inntonation is to actually practice....or atleast come in for guided study. Overall it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.

  13. Our intonation needs to be better. We should pay attention to our left hand a lot more. Also, we need to increase our bow speed because our higher notes sound whiny and squeaky.

  14. Well, it wasnt bad, but i wouldn't necessarily say that it was good. Our intonation could be improved tremdendously. Everyone needs to look at the key signature. We need to stay together; this can be solved by looking at the conductor. The violins need to pick up their bow speed so that it doesn't sound so whinny and squeaky. Other than that, we sound alright. But there is a ton of room for improvement!

  15. I think we need to really look at the dynamic markings in the piece because the music has like no emotion or change to it. Also the high notes in the violin parts sound nasty and we really to work on intonation. We could practice each area that needs help with each section (based on what needs work) then we can gradually get faster and put it all together. The end.

  17. This is not bad it's just that we aren't together and the violins sound squeaky. We need more bow speed and we need to count and subdivide and practice, practice, PRACTICE.
